Barge Building Estimates

Q.
I was unable to attend the information meeting and I was wondering about barge building estimates.  Do the students provide their estimate of the number of objects or the unit of measurement (such as grams)?  Can you provide an example of an estimate to show how it should look and where they should indicate their name, school, etc?

A.
The mass of each piece of cargo is announced at the start of the
event. For example, the supervisor will announce “The cargo is paper
clips. Each paper clip has a mass of 1 gram.”

The written estimate provided by the team is the number of pieces of
cargo they think their barge will hold, not the total mass of that
cargo.

The teams receive a paper form when they arrive in the room for
competiton. On the form, there are lines for the team to write in
their school name, etc.
